OPENING FANFARE: Speaking of HONK!, join San Francisco’s Brass Menažeri and our own Orkestar Zirkonium as they kick off the 4th Annual HONK! Fest West at Fremont’s fabulous High Dive on Sunday. Brass Menažeri (pronounced “Menagerie”) is one of the nation’s best Balkan Romani brass bands, pulling together rhythms and movements from Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, Greece, and Rajasthan for an evocative mix of traditional and contemporary. They’ll be joined by Orkestar Zirkonium, a mobile, fourteen-member brass-and-drum ensemble that kicks Eastern European Roma brass in the klezmer. The show opens Seattle’s HONK season, which will take over Georgetown, Gasworks, Hale’s Palladium, EMP’s Sky Church, and the Seattle Center grounds May 13 – May 15. Go forth and dance!
