SHAD’OH: The eclectic puppetry of Scot “Sgt Rigsby” Augustson finds new form in one of the oldest stories ever told: Homer’s Odyssey. Using shadows, hand drawn projections, and live actors in silhouette, the long sprawl of narrative will turn and twist around and above the audience, like a Vaudevillian laser show. Plus it takes place in a tent in a theater, which we find to be rather inspired. Bring a pillow and prepare yourself for an experience that would have blown Plato’s mind.
Friday (through Nov. 5th) 7:30 p.m. // Theatre Off Jackson // $18
NO PRESSURE: This Saturday, the 10th Annual SeaCompression returns with a new venue, booty-shaking music, and a smorgasbord of creativity across a multitude of mediums. Two acres in Burien (yes, we know, but we think it’s worth the 20 minute car trip) will be stuffed with interactive art, fire spinners, neon rainbows, and performances by Spinergy Arts, Titanium Sporkestra, La Petite Mort, Asraiya On Fire, Babajaga, Billion Jelly Bloom, Ignition Fire Troupe, Coreena, Kaleidosaur, Klezterbalm, and many more. Also there’s apparently going to be a Giant Pool Table and Lite Brite, an Air Kraken, and a Wood Zeppelin Makeout Ship. Grab your sparklepants, people, this is gonna be a party.
Saturday 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. // The Burien Interim Art Space // Tickets: $25 / $40 (21+)
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT: Port Townsend’s Nanda (said “nah-n-dah”) is a four-man acrobatic troupe, specializing in original action set-pieces that perfectly encapsulate the literal translation of the Japanese expletive they’ve co-opted as their name: What?! Over the last few years, they worked on shorter vignettes, sweet bites of faux kung-fu and small bits of blown-up physicality, but now they’ve readied their full-length theater production and it’s a doozy. The Jacket combines comedy, juggling, acrobatics, martial arts, and classic tricks of the theater to tell an epic story, one with mystics, ninjas, robots, lasers, and hopefully you.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Through October 23rd) 8:00 p.m. // Broadway Performance Hall // $12-$25
GOGGLES AND GEARS: The 3rd Annual Steamcon is all this weekend, three days of art, workshops, merchants, space fights, archery competitions, knitting sprints, airship races, and music by Curtis Eller, Gunstreet Glory, Professor Gall, Fein and Dandee, Timur and the Dime Museum, The Bad Things, Toy-Box Trio, Ashia Grzesik & Bison Rouge, BeeHive Juggernauts, and many more. If you’re looking for the perfect place to rock out your Tennant Dr. Who costume, this is where you ought to be.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. // Bellevue Hyatt Regency // $20 – $55
